Started at a kitchen table in Chillicothe

The first buckeye we ever fitted with a music mechanism was a gift — a birthday present that took three ruined shells to get right. It played eight notes, off-key, and our grandmother cried anyway.

We're still a family shop. Every buckeye is gathered locally in the fall, dried for a full season, hollowed by hand, and fitted with a mechanism we wind-test twice before it ships.

The process

From fallen nut to wind-up keepsake

No two shells hollow the same, which is why this stays a hand process.

i.

Gathered & dried

We collect buckeyes each October from a handful of Ohio groves, then dry them slowly for a full season so the shell won't crack.

ii.

Hollowed by hand

Each shell is opened along a hidden seam, hollowed to the exact depth a mechanism needs, and sanded smooth inside.

iii.

Fitted & tuned

A hand-wound mechanism is set inside, tested for tone and tempo, then sealed and finished with a first coat of oil.
